Reverb
Simulating reflections — putting a sound in a room
Related
Reverb simulates the reflections of a space: after the direct sound, walls, floor and air send it back in a dense, decaying tail. It puts a dry sound "in a room" and decides distance and depth.
The common types are algorithmic (delay networks modelling a space) and convolution (a real room's impulse response). Parameters include decay time, pre-delay, dry/wet and high-frequency absorption. The usual mistake is to confuse reverb with delay: delay is discrete echoes, reverb dense reflections; more reverb is not more sophisticated — too much pushes the sound away and blurs it.
