Bus

A channel where several signals are summed for shared processing

A bus is a channel where several signals are summed: drums, bass and vocals can each be sent to their own bus for shared EQ, compression or level control. It can be a group bus (drums, vocals) or an effects send bus (reverb, delay).

It differs from a track: a track carries one sound, a bus carries the sum of a group. The usual mistake is to treat a bus as "one more track" — the point is shared processing and overall control; compressing the bus compresses every sound in that group at once.
