Maestoso

With majestic, stately bearing — often at a broad tempo

Maestoso is both expression and tempo: play with majesty, stateliness and bearing, usually at a broad but unhurried speed. It often opens or crowns a symphony, concerto or ceremonial piece.

It is not "slow": maestoso can sit at a moderate tempo; what matters is weight and direction in every note. The usual mistake is to turn it into a very slow drag — majesty comes from a steady pulse and full tone, not from sacrificing speed.
