Grandioso

With grand, expansive sweep — often matched by full forces and broad tone

Grandioso is an expression mark: play with grand, expansive sweep. It usually appears at a full tutti, a climax or a close, matched by broad tempo, full tone and thick texture.

It is close to maestoso but differently weighted: maestoso is stately and commanding, grandioso stresses scale and expanse. The usual mistake is to play grandioso as "loudest" — grandeur comes from layering and space, not volume alone; always loud leaves nothing grand.
