Co-Publishing
Writer and publisher hold shares of the same song copyright together
Related
Co-publishing is an arrangement in which the writer and the publisher share the copyright in the compositions: typically the writer keeps half the publishing and the publisher takes the other half, with income split accordingly. It gives the writer a larger share than a traditional assignment and often comes with an advance and a term.
The usual mistake is to confuse co-publishing with co-writing credit: credit reflects authorship, while the share is a contract term, and the two need not match. Check the copyright split, who controls administration, how the advance is recouped, and whether the share reverts at the end. This is general information, not legal advice.
