Administration Deal
Managing song copyrights and collecting income without taking a copyright share
Related
An administration deal leaves the copyright share with the writer and appoints an administrator to register works, issue licences, collect income and account for it. The administrator charges an administration fee on income, commonly ten to twenty per cent, usually for a fixed term after which rights revert.
Unlike a publishing assignment it takes no copyright; unlike co-publishing it takes no share. The usual mistake is to expect an administrator to pitch songs like a publisher: active promotion is usually a separate deal or a separate fee. This is general information, not legal advice.
