Tango
An Argentine-Uruguayan urban dance — syncopated, sharp, with bandoneon
Related
Tango is an urban dance music of Argentina and Uruguay: duple or quadruple time, syncopated and sharply accented, with accents often falling where you do not expect. Bandoneon, piano, violin and double bass form the typical ensemble; Piazzolla carried it from the dance hall to the concert stage.
It is related to the habanera, but tango is faster, harder and more urban; it also differs from the milonga, which is earlier and lighter, while tango is more dramatic. The usual mistake is to think tango is only dance — its music has a full instrumental tradition and exists without the dance.
