Re-amping
Sending a recorded dry signal back through a real amp
Related
Re-amping sends a recorded dry signal (usually a DI) back through a real amplifier and records the amp with a microphone. It lets the producer change amp, mic position or gain after the take.
It differs from amp simulation: re-amping uses a real amp and room, while an amp sim uses algorithms or IRs. The usual mistake is to think the sound is fixed once recorded — keeping the DI keeps the right to redo the tone later; re-amping is how that right is exercised.
