Più Mosso

Faster than before — usually a clear instruction to speed up

Più mosso means "faster than before", usually inside the same movement: Andante followed by più mosso tells the player to pick up speed. It is more definite than con moto — con moto is "a little more drive", più mosso is "actually faster".

The change is not a gear shift: a good più mosso makes the music seem to start running on its own rather than being pushed. In an ensemble the moment of acceleration must be agreed by one person, or the parts drift apart.
