Con Moto

A little more drive within the tempo — not a new tempo

Con moto is a tempo qualifier: a little more drive within the existing tempo, usually a touch faster and more flowing than the preceding mark. It is not a new tempo but a change in the momentum of the same music.

It often appears inside a movement: Andante, then con moto — "still a walking pace, but walking". Judge con moto by whether the drive increases, not by whether the BPM changes — sometimes the speed barely moves and only the accent and phrasing lean forward.
