Marziale

Like a military march — steady, with heavy downbeats

Marziale is an expression mark: like a military march — steady rhythm, clear downbeats, a metallic edge. It often appears in duple or quadruple time, with brass and percussion as the typical colour.

It differs from maestoso: maestoso is stately, marziale is marching; marziale is not "fast" either — marches usually sit at a moderate pace. The usual mistake is to play it louder to sound more martial — the authority comes from a steady step and accent, not volume.
