Galop
A very fast duple dance, like a galloping horse
Related
A galop is a very fast duple-time ballroom dance from the nineteenth century: the rhythm of a galloping horse, often short eighth notes and a sudden stop. It frequently closed a ball and also appears in opera and orchestral music.
It differs from the polka: the polka springs, the galop charges; it differs from a march too: a galop is for狂欢, not for walking. The usual mistake is to treat it as just "fast" — its galloping feel and abrupt halt are the character; speed alone is not enough.
