Energico
Energy through rhythmic thrust, not through staying loud
Related
Energico comes from the Italian energia, from Greek energeia, "activity, working", built from en- ("in") and ergon ("work"). The playing should be forceful, propulsive, driving the rhythm.
It concerns how energy is spent, not speed. Energico passages often sit at a steady moderate tempo, held up by accent and bass. The usual mistake is to keep it loud from beginning to end — constant volume tires the ear and the force disappears; energy is heard only when the passage has levels.
