EG Number

The Grieg catalogue number

OpusSz. NumberBWV

EG numbers catalogue Grieg's works (Edvard Grieg), compiled by Dan Fog and others to give a stable identity to pieces without an Op. number or with a confused one.

They differ from Op.: many Grieg works have opus numbers, but some have none or are inconsistently numbered; EG is a supplementary catalogue. The usual mistake is to think Op. makes EG unnecessary — they coexist; cite both when possible to avoid ambiguity.
