Drammatico

With strong contrast and narrative tension

Drammatico is an expression mark: play with strong contrast, narrative tension and a sense of character. It is not "loud": drama can come from sudden silence, a turn of colour, flexible speed.

It is close to espressivo, but espressivo is broader while drammatico stresses scene and conflict. The usual mistake is to play it as "one long climax" — drama needs setup and contrast; always strong leaves no drama.
