Crossfeed

A little left-right bleed for headphones, easing the in-head effect

Crossfeed sends a little of the left channel to the right ear and vice versa during headphone monitoring, imitating the bleed of real speakers and easing the "sound inside the head" effect.

It differs from panning: panning places a sound left or right, crossfeed decides how much each ear hears of the other side. The usual mistake is to think crossfeed ruins stereo — it trades a little separation for a more natural space; it is especially useful for long headphone mixing sessions.
