Comodo

Played at a comfortable, unhurried pace, without strain

Comodo means "convenient, at ease"; as a tempo mark it asks for a pace that is not forced, one that leaves room to breathe. Tempo comodo is not a fixed BPM but a speed at which players and listeners can both move naturally.

It appears in teaching scores and popular pieces, and in the Andante comodo of Mahler's Ninth Symphony. The opposite of comodo is not slow but tight: at the same beat, loose shoulders and clear phrasing feel comodo, while rushed delivery does not. It is close to andante but stresses effortlessness; do not confuse it with the marking a tempo, which returns to the first speed.
