Short Score
A condensed score that reduces the full texture to two or three staves
Related
A short score condenses a work onto two or three staves: typically the upper staff carries the treble texture, the lower staff the bass, and inner voices are kept only where they matter.
It sits between a sketch and a full score. Composers use one to fix harmony and voice leading before orchestrating, and publishers issue one to give conductors a compact overview.
A short score is not a piano reduction. The reduction is rewritten for two hands, whereas the short score still thinks in orchestral parts and often keeps instrument labels and voice markings.
