Aux Send
A level-controlled send used for shared effects or a separate monitor mix
Related
An aux send is a level-controlled tap on a channel: a knob decides how much signal enters an auxiliary bus, which then returns to the mix. It lets one track feed several destinations at once, such as the main output, a reverb, a delay and a cue mix.
Aux sends usually come in groups. Pre-fader sends feed stage or headphone monitoring; post-fader sends feed effects. When several channels feed the same aux, they share one processor and one sense of space.
The usual mistake is to treat an aux send as an alternative main output. The aux bus still has to come back through a return; sending without returning puts the signal on a branch with no exit.
