Audit Right
The contractual right to inspect records and verify royalty payments
Related
An audit right lets a rights holder inspect the books: under agreed conditions, examine sales records, statements and payment calculations to check whether royalties were underpaid. It usually limits how often an audit may occur, the notice required and which years are open.
The usual mistake is to trust a statement that looks right: split definitions, deductions and exchange rates can all go wrong. An audit normally starts with written notice, and the requesting party usually pays first, with costs shared under the contract if errors are found. This is general information, not legal advice.
